Mario Góngora del Campo (1915-1985)


He is considered one of the most important Chilean historians of the twentieth century. Though he studied law at Universidad Católica, he left the legal profession to complete a Bachelor's Degree in History at Universidad de Chile, where he developed his academic career. In 1976, he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Historia (National Award for History) and, in 1978 he became a member of the UC Institute of History, to which he belonged until his death.  His main academic interest was colonial and social history.
