Gabriel Guarda Geywitz (1928-)


While studying architecture at Universidad Católica, Fernando Guarda Geywitz developed an interest for History. Fifteen days after his graduation in 1958, he joined the Benedictine Order and was ordained priest in 1968, after which he chaged his name. That same year, he became a professor of Urban History and History of the Church at Universida Católica. He has made over 300 publications on these subjects, and was recognized with the Premio Nacional de Historia (National Award for History) in 1984, the Premio Bicentenario (Bicentennial Award) in 2003, and also with the Premio Conservación de Monumentos Nacionales (National Monuments Conservation Award) in 2004.
