Rafael Benguria Donoso (1951-)


He is an academic of the Faculty of Physics who was awarded the Premio Nacional de Ciencias Exactas in 2005 for his research on mathematical physics. He graduated as Electrical Civil Enginner and obtaind a Master´s Degree in Physics from Universidad de Chile. Later on, he studied a second Master´s Degree and a PhD in Physics at the University of Princeton (U.S.). He is an important member of the Academia Chilena de Ciencias (Chilean Academy for Sciencies). He was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Mathematical Physics between 2006 and 2011. In two periods he has been president of the Sociedad Chilena de Física (Physics Society). Between 1993 and 1996, he was a member of the Senior Committee of Sciences of FONDECYT. Nowadays, he is part of the Comité de Honor (Honour Committe) in the Celebration of the Bicentennial of the Biblioteca Nacional (National Library).
