Raúl Zurita Canessa (1951-)

 

A distinguished poet who was awarded the Premio Nacional de Literatura (National Award for Literature) and who became the first writer-in-residence at the Faculty of Letters, Universidad Católica de Chile. This Civil Engineer in Structures from the Universidad Federico Santa María in Valparaíso is a multitalented creator, who received the Guggenheim Scholarship and worked as Professor of Literature in California State University. His work features a very personal language and style, as well as existentialist themes. He has done many "art activities", such as writing poems in the sky of New York. His books have been translated to many languages and is considered one of the great poets of his generation.
