Jorge Díaz Gutiérrez (1930-2007)


Chilean architect, playwright, artist, painter and poet. He studied Architecture at Universidad Católica, and by the end of the 1950's he began his career with the theatre and was linked to the Ictus company. He has written more than ninety plays and is one of the most renowned playwrights in the history of Chilean drama scene. He also worked as scriptwriter for radio and television and is the author of several narrative works. He also had a successful career in Spain, where he lived for over 30 years. He was awarded the Palencia Drama Award from Spain in 1980; the Antonio Buero Vallejo Award from Guadalajara in 1992; and the National Award in Audiovisual and Performing Arts in 1993.
