Erika Himmel König (1930 - )


She studied to be a Teacher of Mathematics at Instituto Pedagógico (School of Education), Universidad de Chile and then obtained a Masters in Measurement and Assessment in Psychology and Education from Columbia University (New York). She took part in the development of the main education evaluation and assessment systems of Chile: PAA (prueba de aptitud académica, university entry tests), Simce (Sistema de Medición de la Calidad de la Educación, Systems of measuring quality in education)  and the current PSU (Prueba de selección universitaria, University entry selection tests). She was Academic Vice-Chancellor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica  and later, Dean of the Faculty of Education. She has also worked as adviser in aspects of educational assessment to different Latinoamerican governments and international organizations. In 2007, she was awarded the Orden al Mérito Gabriela Mistral (Gabriela Mistral Order of Merit). In 2011, she was awarded the Premio Nacional de Ciencias de la Educación (National Award in Education Sciences) for her significant contributions to the educational assessment area.
