Fernando Debesa Marín (1921 -2006)


Notable Chilean playwright and writer. In 1981, he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Arte (National Award in Arts). He studied Architecture and was one of the founders of the Teatro de Ensayo at Universidad Católica de Chile (TEUC). There, he was a Co-Director and  set and costume designer.  He is the author of Mamá Rosa, a play that delves into the relationship he had with his mother when he was a child. It had its premier in Chile in 1957 and it had a revival again in 1982, becoming a great success with the public in both instances. The play has been translated into English and has been produced overseas. He is the author of a vast and valuable collection of research in Drama and press articles for several publications, thus becoming a benchmark for research publications in this field.
