René Cortázar Sagarminaga (1917-2008)


This distinguished academic of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the Universidad Católica graduated from Agricultural Engineering from Universidad de Chile and completed a Master and a PhD at the University of Minnesota, United States. In 1994, he received the Premio Nacional de Ciencias Aplicadas (National Award for Applied and Technological Sciences) for his research in genetic optimization and new ways of producing wheat. In 1984, after 40 years of working for his Faculty, he obtained the degree of Professor Emeritus of the Universidad Católica.
