Julio Meneghello Rivera (1911 - 2009)


Medical Doctor, scientist, academic and researcher. In 1954, he started the official chair of Pediatrics at the UC. In 1936, he received his professional qualification from the Universidad   de Chile and then followed posgraduate studies in three American universities: Harvard, John Hopkins and Cornell. In 1996, he received the Premio Nacional de Ciencias Aplicadas y Tecnólogicas (National Award for Applied and Technological Sciences) for his contribution to eradicate malnutrition and reduce infant mortality in Chile. In 2002, he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Medicina (National Ward for Medicine), for his role as pioneer in social pediatrics in Chile.
