José Armando de Ramón Folch (1927 – 2004)


Renowned academic linked to Universidad Católica since 1956. He started his career in the Faculty of Law and then in the Faculty of Philosophy and Education. From 1980 until his death he was an Associate Professor at the Institute of History. In 1953, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales (Legal and Social Sciences) from the Faculty of Law, Universidad de Chile. He completed post-graduate studies in Law at Universidad de Madrid (1955-1956) and in Sociology at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (1963).  In 1998, he received the Premio Nacional de Historia (National Award for History) for his important contribution to the study of urban and social history, and the study of economic and biographic history, specially the republic history of the 20th Century.
