José Miguel Aguilera Radic (1947- )


A civil engineer (with a major in chemistry) from Universidad Católica, he is the current president of Conicyt (Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica, National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research). He has an MBA from Texas and A&M University, a Masters in Food Technology from the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a PhD in Food Science from Cornell University. Since 1986, he has been Associate Professor for the Department of Chemical Engineering and Bioprocesses, Universidad Católica. In 2008, he received the Premio Nacional de Ciencias Aplicadas y Tecnológicas (National Award in Applied Sciences and Technology)  for his contribution to the study of the structure of food.  In 2010, he became the first Chilean to be elected as a  member of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States of America.
