Juan Enrique Lira Vergara (1927-2007)


This multifaceted Chilean Journalistic-photographer was, for thirty years, the photographic editor for "El Mercurio." During this period he had the chance to capture important moments in Chilean history. He was also a remarkable athlete, becoming the World Shooting Champion in 1965. Between 1969 and 1975, he was Professor of Journalistic Photography, Universidad Católica. Given his life achievements, in 1987 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Periodismo (National Award in Journalism), with special mention to Photography.
