Fernando Rosas Pfingsthorn (1939-2007)


He completed a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Interpretation at Universidad Católica. And completed studies in Law from Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. He also obtained a Fulbright Scholarship that allowed him to study at Julliard School (USA). In 1976, he established the Fundación Beethoven (Beethoven Foundation) where several initiatives came to life, such as the homonymous radio station and the Fundación Beethoven concert seasons. In 1994, he founded the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional Juvenil (National Youth Symphony Orchestra). Then, in 2001, he organized the Fundación Nacional de Orquestas Juveniles (National Youth Orchestra Foundation) that he chaired until his death. Due to his work with children and youth in general, mainly from disadvantaged backgrounds, in 2006 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Artes Musicales (National Award in Musical Arts), in recognition for his constant efforts towards the dissemination of classical music among the youth.
