The largest campus of UC that has become a true university town, housing 13 colleges. It has belonged to the university since 1891, though the first colleges only began to be built there in the 1960s.Study at San Joaquin
This faculty offers the degrees of Agriculture & Forestry, along with a variety of postgraduate and certification programs, as well as courses to develop professionals who can contribute to the sustainable growth of the agricultural and forestry sectors while helping to protect the environment. It is also part of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
This faculty consists of the Institute of Astrophysics and the Institute of Physics. Both teach undergraduate, Master's and postgraduate programs. The Institute of Physics houses the CIEN-UC Center, while the Institute of Astrophysics works closely with the UC Center of Astro-Engineering (AIUC).
This faculty offers different options in education: English for primary and middle schools; pre-school education; basic education, and a science and math teaching program for middle school. It also offers Master's and PhD programs, as well as teacher training programs and continuing education.
The Institute of Political Sciences, the Institute of Geography and the Institute of History are part of this faculty, each offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including Master's and PhD programs, certification programs and courses. The School of Government, an interdisciplinary program at UC Chile, is also part of this faculty.
Within this faculty are the Institute of Philosophy, which offers licensing and PhD programs, and the Institute of Aesthetics, with a licensing program that is the only one of its kind in Latin America. It offers two master's programs: American Aesthetics and Film Studies.
The faculty is composed of the School of Psychology, the School of Social Work, the Institute of Sociology and the School of Anthropology. It provides a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, certification programs and courses. The School of Government, an interdisciplinary program at UC Chile, is also part of this faculty.
The faculty houses the School of Business Administration and the Institute of Economics. Each offers undergraduate, postgraduate and certification programs, as well as courses. The School of Government, an interdisciplinary program at UC Chile, is also part of this college.
This innovative offering of undergraduate studies includes the following Bachelors degrees: Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Social Sciences.
The Faculty of Theology offers Bachelors, Master's and PhD degrees in Theology, as well as courses and certification programs.
The undergraduate program offers degrees in Chemistry and Chemistry & Pharmacy. It also offers a PhD program in Chemistry, and different certification programs and courses, as well as research, teaching and instrumental analysis labs.
This faculty houses the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine, which offer undergraduate, Master's, PhD and specialization programs. Additionally, it offers degrees in Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy and Nutrition and Dietetics. The Institute of Biological & Medical Engineering and the School of Veterinary Medicine, two interdisciplinary programs at UC Chile, are also part of this faculty.
This faculty teaches the degrees of Mathematics and Statistics, as well as Master's and PhD programs that seek to develop professionals capable of applying theoretical models to practical situations. The Institute of Engineering Mathematics & Computer Engineering, with its interdisciplinary program, is also part of the faculty.
This faculty offers two undergraduate programs: Spanish Literature and English Literature. It also offers Master's and PhD programs, outreach and language courses, and certification programs.
The schools of Construction and Engineering are part of this faculty. Both schools offer undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs, along with certification programs and continuing education courses for professionals. The faculty also houses the School of Government, the Institute of Bioengineering & Biomedical Engineering, and the Institute of Engineering Mathematics & Computer Engineering, all interdisciplinary programs at the university.
The faculty offers degrees in Biology, Biochemistry and Marine Biology, along with PhD and certification programs. The faculty is known for its original scientific research and for teaching science at the basic and advanced levels. The Institute of Biological & Medical Engineering and the School of Veterinary Medicine, two interdisciplinary programs at UC Chile, are also part of this college.

Campus History
San Joaquin is the largest campus of the university. The original land was known as the San Luis de Macul estate and was donated to the University in 1891 by the Larraín Gandarillas family.
First it was used as an agricultural station for the College of Agriculture. Over the years, specifically since the 1960s, the construction of the facilities began according to the master plan presented by the architect Germán Brandes. It created a university town that unified colleges that were previously spread throughout the city.
A sculpture of the Sacred Heart was installed at the Avenida Vicuña Mackenna entrance in 1963 and has since become a symbol of the campus.
It took some time for the campus to take shape. Its first students felt isolated from the rest of the University in a very desolate space: dry and without trees, with scorching hot temperatures in summer and strong wind gusts in winter.
But the long-term vision of university officials, who felt it was a much needed and viable project, allowed it to consolidate as a university campus that currently houses most of the institution’s colleges.
Today it has more than 70 buildings and 13 colleges, along with the UC College Preparatory Program and over 22,000 students. It also has ample gardens with native species, large trees, sports fields, a gym and a swimming pool, as well as libraries and cafeterias.
