Fudan University and UC Chile Sign New Cooperation and Student Mobility Agreements


The signing of these new agreements aims to increase undergraduate and master’s student mobility in all areas of knowledge between both institutions, as well as to strengthen academic collaboration in research, creation, and international networking.

On Friday, December 12, a delegation of authorities and faculty members from Fudan University, China, (ranked 30th in the Global 2026 QS Ranking) visited UC Chile to sign a Cooperation Agreement and a Global Mobility Agreement, the latter open to students from all areas of knowledge. 

The committee was led by the President of Fudan University, Mr. Qiu Xin, who held a meeting early in the morning with UC Chile President Juan Carlos de la Llera, during which both agreements were signed, with the aim of strengthening the academic collaboration between the two universities. 

The signing of both agreements represents a significant milestone in a bilateral relationship that began formally in 2017, which has progressively consolidated, and today enables the expansion of educational opportunities from both institutions, as well as deepening the exchange of knowledge in the fields of research, education, and creation.

The Cooperation Agreements establish a joint framework for the development of academic exchange initiatives, teaching collaboration, participation in international networks, and research addressing global challenges. Over the last decade, both universities have produced 61 joint publications, a figure that is expected to increase significantly as result of this new agreement. 

Meanwhile, the Global Student Mobility Agreement opens new opportunities for undergraduate and master’s students from all areas of knowledge to participate in semester-long exchange programs and other forms of academic mobility, promoting new destinations and strengthening the academic ties between Chile and China. 

UC Chile and Fudan University share a common history in prestigious international university networks, such as Universitas 21 (U21), the Fudan Latin America University Consortium, and PIC, which will benefit from these new agreements, enabling the creation of pathways to reach the objectives in face of the world’s most pressing challenges. 

Nine members from Fudan University participated in the signing ceremony: Mr. Qiu Xin, Chairman of the University Council; Mrs. Lu Li’an, Director, Office of Global Partnerships; Mr. Sun Lijian, Director Financial Research Center, Fudan Development Institute; Mrs. Cheng Yiyang, Director of the Center for Hispanic and Lusophone Studies; Mr. Zheng Yu, Head of Department of International Politics, School of International Relations & Public Affairs; Mr. Xu Xian, Professor and Vice Dean, School of Economics; Mrs. Cao Ting, Director, Center for Latin American Studies; Mrs. Wang Shiao, Assistant Professor, Fudan Development Institute; Mrs. Niu Shan, Program Manager, Office of Global Partnerships.

After the signing, the delegation held a meeting led by Vice President Maria Montt, alongside with representatives from various UC Chile Faculties: Johannes Rehner, Director of the Faculty of History, Geography, and Political Science, Director of the Center of Asian Studies of the Faculty of History, Geography, and Political Science; Francisco Orellana, Director of the Office of Student Affairs of the Faculty of Literature; Álvaro Etchegaray, Coordinator of International Outreach; Catalina Gerstmann, Manager of Strategic Relations of the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs.
