Office of the Vice President for Digital Intelligence

The Office of the Vice President for Digital Intelligence is the unit charged by the President with developing and implementing the University's policy to adapt, understand, and operate efficiently and effectively in digital environments, as well as implementing the resolutions of the Leadership Council related to these matters.

Paula Aguirre Aparicio

Paula Aguirre Aparicio holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Astronomy from the UC Chile and a PhD in Astrophysics from the same university. She is an assistant professor at the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering and as an associate researcher at the Center for Research on Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN) in the area of Risk and Resilience in Complex Systems and Networks. She has served as Vice President for Digital Intelligence since 2025.

Core Functions

She is the authority responsible for developing and implementing the University's policy to adapt, understand, and operate in digital environments.

a) Propose policies for the development of digital skills and competencies, the development of digital ethical and social awareness, and the organization's capacity to adapt technologically to meet better the objectives and goals defined by the University. 
b) Propose the means and technological tools to enhance the academic processes of training, research, creation, and management. 
c) Develop, integrate, and operate the University's academic, research, creative, and administrative information systems. 
d) To provide integrated technological solutions that promote the effective use of data, continuous improvement, institutional efficiency, as well as an adequate data protection and cybersecurity system.

Office of Digital Development

This unit designs and builds digital projects and products that contribute to the technological advancement of university education, research, innovation, and administration to achieve smart digital management. Through systems development, the adoption of new technologies, internal consulting, and customized solutions, it transforms institutional processes into simple, agile, innovative, and meaningful experiences for people.

Office of Systems and Cybersecurity

This unit operates and protects the technological ecosystem that supports UC Chile: networks and connectivity, data center and cloud infrastructure, operation of critical systems, and cybersecurity, as well as service and support to the university community. Its purpose is to ensure a stable, secure, and reliable digital experience, safeguarding operational continuity and institutional information.

Mauricio Serrano

Office of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This unit coordinates the responsible integration of AI into university life. It develops and implements institutional solutions for applied AI and, through the Hub, provides a space to guide and discuss the critical, ethical, and innovative use of artificial intelligence together with the community.

Pablo Barceló

Director

Office of Data and Computing

This department leads UC Chile’s evolution toward a federated ecosystem of data and advanced computing. Through a governance framework, it ensures that each unit retains sovereignty over its information. This department also provides the platforms and processing capacity needed to securely cross-reference this data and transform it into analytical products and services that enhance decision-making in teaching, research, and management.

Executive Direction

This unit coordinates the implementation of the strategic plan and supports the operations of the Office of the Vice President for Digital Intelligence with a cross-cutting and systemic approach. It leads demand management with the university’s various units, supports the adoption of new institutional technologies through change management, and handles financial-administrative management and control of various projects, ensuring that each digital initiative aligns with the UC Chile Dream and generates value for the university community.
